Why we built Tekna
We have spent years working in and around airline flight and ground operations. The same thing kept surprising us. Weight & balance data — critical for flight safety — is being managed in unlocked and free-text data formats where anyone could modify published production data, managed in disorganized folder structures with no access controls, and files being emailed around and data transferred manually by copy/paste keyboard punching. This is not an auditable or verifiable process for a safety critical process. This can't be the right or best way to manage this data.
Weight and balance data has very little or no redundancy towards errors. Once published to production — it's live and trusted. If this data is created with errors or transferred incorrectly, there is nothing that will stop it or detect it before becoming a risk for flight safety.
The problem isn't the standard — it's the format and medium. Software engineering solved this problem decades ago with version control and code reviews. We need to do airline weight and balance in the same way. IATA lays the foundation with its recent XML-based X565 standard to structure and transfer weight & balance data in machine readable format. Tekna Vault is the framework to store, create, revise, and manage this data, and to share it with those who need it in a secure manner.

Is Tekna Vault compliant with IATA AHM 565?
Yes. Vault is built to be fully compliant with the latest IATA AHM standard from the ground up. It is the platform for managing that data in a smart way, and it validates your data against the standard for you. Import your existing data and Vault checks it, so only validated, AHM-compliant data is exported to production.
Does Tekna Vault fit our existing AHM 565 process?
Yes. Vault speaks the same IATA AHM standard you already use, and your data is structured to be compliant with it — we give you the best tools to keep it that way. Import your data into Vault, validate it, and correct any errors found. Only validated data is exported, in the IATA AHM standard.
Can we get all of our data out?
Any time. Vault exports your published data as X565 XML, and every export is verified before it is served: the generated file is re-run through our own strict importer to prove it re-imports losslessly. Your data leaves in the same standard it arrived in.
Can Vault connect to our other systems?
Vault exports your data as IATA AHM 565 / X565 XML. We can also set up API data connections to other software, such as DCS and EFB systems.
Where is our data hosted?
On AWS cloud infrastructure. Each airline's data is isolated in its own tenant, access is invite-only, and roles are managed per carrier by your own admins.
Who can change our data?
Nobody edits live data directly. Editors work in drafts; a designated approver in your airline reviews the diffs and approves before anything is published. Every change is attributed, and every previous version is retained.
Does Tekna compute load sheets?
No. Vault is the system of record for the semi-permanent W&B data your load control systems consume — it doesn't replace them. Load-plan optimization is the territory of Tekna Optima, a second product currently in development.
